The idea behind LUMII is the result of years of our research at MIT:


We’re replacing traditional optics with algorithms, to create high-quality, glasses-free 3D experiences.


We’re enabling a new class of 3D display surfaces made using readily available hardware components - no lenses, and no special fab required. The Lumii Light Field Engine accepts 3D models and computes a set of unique patterns. By printing these patterns and stacking them in front of a backlight, they emit a multi-view light field:
